Problems With Calls and Connects
0By admin in : Calls, QMs, Pal List // Jan 14 2010
ICUII 7.7.5 introduced “TCP Proxy Calling“. This means that if you try to place a call to someone who is behind an incorrectly configured firewall / router / modem and that person does not have TCP 2000-2001 ports opened. iCU2 will try to establish a connection with the person through our servers, by methods explained below.
(You can locate this area on your iCU2 program by going to Tools – Options / Settings – Obscure, on your main iCU2 Toolbar)

| Inhibit Server Assisted Calling:
Selected: Unselected: |
| Call Control Method:TCP Only: This method attempts to stream the video feeds to / from you via iCU2 Proxy Servers, while highly reliable you may notice a slight change in video feed performance. UDP Only: This method will attempt UDP Server Assisted Calling, whereby your iCU2 client talks to an iCU2 server, then the ICUII Server attemps to talk to the other party and tries to establish a direct call that way. While this method works, some users may have issues with modems / routers losing their internet connection (usually DLink routers), or only seeing “incoming video” text instead of a video feed. If this happens, try switching to the TCP Only method. Default Handshake: (Note: Remember that if you are going to use one of the Call Control Methods, you must remember to ensure there is no tick/check in Inhibit Server Assisted Calling) |
We would suggest that if you want to get the best out of iCU2, you should try to setup any networking devices / security software to allow you to receive direct connections. To do this You have to allow the following ports to be open on your system: TCP 2000, 2001, UDP 2002.
Information on how to do this with most modems / routers can be found at this weblink:

Information on how to setup specific firewalls / security / anti virus programs can be found at this weblink:

There are some scenarios where it will not be possible to get direct connections, ie users of Satellite Connections. Those users should deselect “Inhibit Server Assisted Calling” and choose “TCP Only” from the Call Control Method.
If you find you have issues receiving or sending call / connection requests and cannot setup any networking device or firewall correctly, please deselect “Inhibit Server Assisted Calling” and choose “TCP Only” from the Call Control Method.
Remember that for any type of “Call Control Method” to work correctly, the person(s) you are trying to communicate with must have the same settings as you in Tools – Options – Obscure.
If you have issues with Server Assisted Calling, we suggest that you take a moment to read the information shown above for turning off Server Assisted Calling and also setup your router / firewall / modem so that you can do direct connections without the need for Server Assisted Calling.
