If you see this error when you try to install iCU2 there are two possibilities,

1: You are trying to install iCU2 when you are not logged onto XP as an Administrator
2: The folder / directory that you are downloading to on your hard drive has some issues.

Please read below for resolutions to both instances:

Scenario 1:
You will see this if you try to install iCU2 using a non-Administrator account on Windows XP. To resolve the issue, please read below:

1: Log onto Windows XP as an Administrator
2: Download iCU2
6: Choose “Create Shortcut”
7: Locate the “shortcut to iCU2″ file at the bottom of your icuii folder
8: Drag (or cut and paste) the “shortcut to iCU2″ icon to your desktop.

Scenario 2:
1: Download iCU2
2: When the window pops up asking you to “open” or “save” -choose save
3: When prompted for a location to save the installer to, try using a different location, ie, if you were saving to your desktop previously, try saving to C:downloads instead
4: When the installer has downloaded, click on Open and iCU2 should now install

This can happen if settings on your registry change or are deleted (sometimes due to corruption of the registry). Or if you have moved your iCU2 folder to a different location since your last installation / update.

Please try this (make sure iCU2 is turned off before attempting this):

1: Right mouse click on the desktop icon for iCU2 that normally displays your pal list/saved messages
2: Select “Properties”
3: Select “Find Target” (98/Me/2000/XP users) or “Open File Location” (Vista users) on the new window that appears
4: You should now be in your original iCU2 folder
5: Leave that window open and now Right mouse click on the desktop icon for iCU2 that you want to transfer the pal list/saved messages to
6: Select “Properties”
7: Select “Find Target” (98/Me/2000/XP users) or “Open File Location” (Vista users) on the new window that appears
8: You should now be in your new iCU2 folder

Leave both windows open (so that it’s easy to transfer the files)

9: In the window that contains your original iCU2 pal list / saved messages, locate all of the folders that end with .usr
and copy them (you can either copy/paste or drag and drop) into the iCU2 folder that you want to transfer the files to
10: Once you have transferred all of the .usr folders, locate these two files in your original iCU2 folder:

pals
palnames.dat

….and copy them to the new iCU2 folder.

If you want to transfer your Profile over, also copy these two files to your new iCU2 folder:

auth
server.lif (not servers or servers2)

You should now have transferred all of the .usr folders plus the 4 files above (pals and palnames.dat, auth and server.lif)

Now try starting the newer iCU2 and you should have your pal list and saved messages available to you. If everything seems to be in place, you may
want to delete the original iCU2 desktop icon in case you accidentally click on that to start iCU2.

Please note that you may have to wait 30 minutes after doing the transfer before your registration code will be accepted.

Dynex 1.3mp
ATI All-in-Wonder 128 (32MB) PCI Capture Card (Using MPEG drivers)
BocaResearch Boca Video Phone (Obsolete)
Connectix QuickCam B&W*
All Dazzle Multimedia Dazzle
Ezonics USB (under Windows 2000 and XP)
eVision 123
Iomega Buz
Miro DC 10/DC 30
Pinnacle DC 10 + ***
Zoom Cams
Sony CMR-PC4 – USB: Works in Windows 98/ME. Does NOT work with Windows XP.
Umax Astrapix 3205 (supports jpg drivers only)
All Kodak Digital Cameras

All Microsoft Lifecams
(we have only tested the VX-6000, however we assume that all Lifecams will act the same). Lifecams do NOT support any video size apart from 640×480 (320×240 is the accepted Video Chat standard, and usually the maximum), which means iCU2 may run slow, or even crash. In addition, The iCU2 Message Center will only display images/video properly from 352×288 size and LOWER, so QMs you send to users will NOT appear correctly for the recipient.

Veo (all Versions ) – Will ONLY work when used with the most current XP
driver from the Veo Website. (Incompatible with iCU2 under Windows 95/98/ME
due to a driver issue )

ATI Radeon 32/64 Radeon VE & All ATI products using the new drivers for Direct Show. Due to limitations of the manufacturers drivers, all ATI cards will work properly only under Windows NT, Windows 2000 and XP. Please click here for more information from ATI.

All videocams currently available have an issue with NOT having VFW (Video for Windows) drivers available and will not work for video chat on the internet.

Any 1394 Firewire connected Cameras require you to be using DirectX mode with iCU2 (Settings – Options – Video)

iCU2 does not support any video device using MPEG format.

When we introduced iCU2 8.1 we changed the way iCU2 was installed to make it easier (in some aspects) for users to have more than 1 installation of iCU2.
The way it works now is that each Windows “User Account” can install it’s own copy of iCU2.

To have a 2nd installation of iCU2 on your computer, you would have to either:

1: Already have 2 (or more) Windows User Accounts (you’ll see them when you start your computer and login to Windows, if you do) and then log into the Windows User Account that doesn’t have iCU2 installed on it already.

or

2: Create a new Windows User Account (click here to see how to create a new Windows User Account) via your Windows Control Panel. Then log into the new User Account and download / install iCU2.

Then you can switch (shown below) between Windows User Accounts to access your own, personal iCU2 account.

The benefits of this approach are that each user can have their own Pal List, Saved/Sent Quick Messages, Profile, Trivia Score, Ignore List. It also makes the process of updating your iCU2 program much simpler. However, please bear in mind that if you have 2 installations of iCU2 on 1 computer, you would need to own 2 registration codes.

This guide only works for iCu2 8.1 users (or higher), if you have 8.0.6 or lower, please update to (click here to download and install) the newest iCU2 before creating new accounts for iCU2 (as described in this tutorial)
