iCU2 Video Chat Staff, Admin and MODs DO NOT have access to your selected password.
Only YOU have access to your password.

If you are seeing this error message when starting iCU2 please ensure that you are entering the password correctly, for instance:

1: Do not leave any spaces before or after the password2: Passwords are case sensitive. MYPASSWORD is not the same as MyPassword or mypassword

If your password is still not accepted, please attempt the fix below:

1: Right mouse click on your iCU2 desktop icon and choose “Properties”
2: Choose “Find Target” or “Open File Location” from the menu that appears
You should now be in your iCU2 folder.
3: Locate and delete the file called icuii.ini (it may only say icuii but is easy to locate as the icon is a notepad with a gold wheel/cog on it)
5: After deleting that file, start iCU2 and you will be asked to re-enter your name/location/comments, etc. Doing this will also reset your logon password.

If you choose to set a new password (rather than leave iCU2 with no password), remember that the password is case sensitive. MY PASSWORD is not the same as MyPassword or mypassword

VISTA USERS: Perfect Backups are not possible due to the changes Microsoft made with their “Program Files” folder in Vista. A guide on how to manually backup your iCU2 files when using Vista will be made available shortly.

There are two options for creating a backup of your iCU2 files:

Option 1 will create a backup of your Pal List, Ignore List, Profile, Saved Messages and any other special settings you have

Option 2 will create a backup of everything shown in Option 1 except your Saved Messages

Option 1
1: Download and install the iCU2 Account Backup Tool (to your old computer)

2: Start the iCU2 Account Backup Tool

3: Select your current iCU2 directory (it’s normally in My Computer – C – Program Files – iCU2)

4: Tick the box that says “Include Saved Messages in Backup”

5: Click on “Backup”. The Backup process may take a few minutes depending on how much data is being backed up.

6: The iCU2 Account Backup Tool will now back up the following files for you:
a: Your Profile
b: You Pal List
c: Your Saved Messages
d: Your Ignore List
e: Any special settings you made (ie port configurations, saving of outgoing QMs etc)

7: Once the Backup has completed, a file will be created in your “My Documents” folder called “06-29-04.ic2″ – The numbers in the filename will change according to the date you created the backup.

You will now have a full back up of your iCU2 files. You can leave that file on your computer to use as a restore at a later date. However, it is advisable to transfer the file to some sort of removable media (blank CD, zip disk, etc) for safe keeping.

Information on how to restore your backup can be found at this weblink: Restore from Backups

Option 2

1: Download and install the iCU2 Account Backup Tool (to your old computer)

2: Start the iCU2 Account Backup Tool

3: Select your current iCU2 directory (it’s normally in My Computer – C – Program Files – iCU2)

4: Make sure the box that says “Include Saved Messages in Backup” is NOT ticked.

5: Click on “Backup”. The Backup process may take a few minutes depending on how much data is being backed up.

6: The iCU2 Account Backup Tool will now back up the following files for you:
a: Your Profile
b: You Pal List
c: Your Ignore List
d: Any special settings you made (ie port configurations, saving of outgoing QMs etc)

Please note that this procedure does NOT back up your Saved Messages. If you want your Saved Messages to be backed up, use Option 1

Also, you may find that your pals are listed as UserIDs after doing the transfer. You can manually rename pals by right clicking on the Pal and choosing “Rename Pal” in the pal list.
Related information

1: You cannot use the exact same iCU2 on two computers. ie. if you transfer your iCU2 from one computer to another, you can only use 1 of them because both will have the same UserID. Doing this may cause problems with both of your iCU2s and may result in you being blocked from the iCU2 servers.2: The registration code you have is valid for use on 1 computer at any given time. If you try to use it on more than 1 computer, you will receive “invalid registration code” warnings.

3: Performing a backup/restore of your iCU2 files may result in you receiving “Invalid Registration Code” warnings, as the iCU2 Servers will sense 2 or more User IDs attempting to use the same Registration Code in a short space of time. If this occurs. Perform any restores you need to do, then wait 30 minutes without using iCU2. After the 30 minutes have passed, your Registration Code should be accepted.

Sound Alerts (QM, Call, etc) not working

If you are no longer hearing the audible alerts for incoming Calls, Quick Messages, etc. Please read the information below:

Have a look in iCU2′s Tools – Configure Sounds area (it’s on the main iCU2 Toolbar, where it says iCU2 Registered Version).

From that area, you can configure the sounds to play, your sound files should be in c:\program files\icuii\sounds or c:\program files\icuii\sounds depends on when you installed iCU2 as to where the exact location will be).

If you find that there are no sounds in the folder, reinstalling iCU2(over the top of your existing iCU2) will re-add the sounds. You may still have to do the configuration for the sounds as mentioned above though.

The sound associations should be as follows:

Call Appeared – Hello.wav

Call Ended -Discon.WAV

Capture – Camera1.WAV

Message Failed – blip002.wav

Message Sent – fx2.WAV

Zoom Cams
Sony CMR-PC4 – USB: Works in Windows 98/ME. Does NOT work with Windows XP.
Umax Astrapix 3205 (supports jpg drivers only)
All Kodak Digital Cameras

All Microsoft Lifecams
(we have only tested the VX-6000, however we assume that all Lifecams will act the same). Lifecams do NOT support any video size apart from 640×480 (320×240 is the accepted Video Chat standard, and usually the maximum), which means iCU2 may run slow, or even crash. In addition, The iCU2 Message Center will only display images/video properly from 352×288 size and LOWER, so QMs you send to users will NOT appear correctly for the recipient.

Veo (all Versions ) – Will ONLY work when used with the most current XP
driver from the Veo Website. (Incompatible with iCU2 under Windows 95/98/ME
due to a driver issue )

ATI Radeon 32/64 Radeon VE & All ATI products using the new drivers for Direct Show. Due to limitations of the manufacturers drivers, all ATI cards will work properly only under Windows NT, Windows 2000 and XP. Please click here for more information from ATI.

All videocams currently available have an issue with NOT having VFW (Video for Windows) drivers available and will not work for video chat on the internet.

Any 1394 Firewire connected Cameras require you to be using DirectX mode with iCU2 (Settings – Options – Video)

iCU2 does not support any video device using MPEG format.

Mods can block a another user’s text from appearing in the chat lobby for x amount of minutes, hours, days, This should only happen if the person is abusing the Chat Lobby by spamming text repeatedly or displaying inappropriate text / snapshots for that specific Chat Lobby.

Mods can also provide you with limited help with your iCU2 Program.
Please remember that Mods are still regular iCU2 users, just like you. So they may not always be available to assist you.

You may notice this happen if you have an abnormally large amount of Quick Messages stored in your Unread Messages area of the Message Center. The reason it takes so long is because the iCU2 Program has to index all of the Quick Messages in your Unread Messages area when iCU2 loads, when you first open the Message Center and also when you close iCU2.

If you find iCU2 to be slow opening and closing. We would suggest going into your Message Center and either deleting any QMs that you do not want, or saving the ones you do want, so that they no longer appear in the “Unread Messages” area.

You can either save / delete the QMs during your iCU2 session. Or you can also save / delete the QMs when you close iCU2.

A window will appear asking if you want to:

Save Them – Doing this will save all Quick Messages in the Message Center into a section within the Message Center’s Saved Messages area. Each persons QM will be stored in their own unique area which makes it simple for you to locate QMs to / from that person.

Discard Them – Clicking on this will permanently delete all Quick Messages from the Unread Messages area. It will not delete QMs you have previously Saved

Leave them for my next session – This is the option that has most likely caused your issues. If you always select this option when you close iCU2. The amount of Quick Messages that have to be indexed when you open and close iCU2 will gradually build up and will eventually render your ICUII Program very slow to respond.

• I have seen scenarios where users have had 5000+ Quick Messages sitting in their Unread Messages area. Opening iCU2 took the best part of 12 minutes (as did closing iCU2). Navigating the Message Center was also painfully slow.

If you wish to enjoy your iCU2 experience to the fullest extent possible, please either empty your Unread Messages area either by deleting Quick Messages or by saving Quick Messages on a regular basis so that the Unread Messages area of your Message Center has less than 200 Quick Messages.
